I have been interested in writing journals for years. I used to try to keep one when I was in college, but rarely kept with it for more than a few weeks at a time. I even got to one point in my life when I would record things on mini-cassette because I figured it would be easier than writing and would accomplish the same thing. I quickly learned that I break small electronics and that writing is easier than talking to oneself.
Then along came the internet. Believe it or not, I have been using computers to get “online” since the late 80’s or early 90’s. My brother was always fooling around with local BBS crap, and I just kind of did what he did (to a lesser degree, and if you’re a Fed, I never touched the stuff he was growing in the closet). However, I had no idea…no sense of imagination that could have ever prepared me for the World Wide Web and the internet that we all know and love today.
I first saw the World Wide Web when I was 21 and visiting my parents on leave from Korea. I was amazed. You could type in words and get pictures, and text, and instant (well as instant as dial-up could be) information. I immediately saw the possibilities…and when I say, “saw the possibilities”, I mean “pictures of naked women”.
Still, I was intrigued, and always thought about building a Web site. However, whenever I would start learning about html, I would get easily bored and quit. As networking sites became popular, I realized I was able to write things down in a “journal” without much effort…and now, other people could read it. Still, I only did so sporadically because Myspace is for lame people and teenage girls, right?
Alas, finally one day I was drinking at my favorite bar with my favorite bartenders and I had been thinking about Domain names. I had in my head “creepyfatman.com”. I thought it said a lot about who I am as a person, and how I think other people see me. Of course, I also thought about “bigmexicandinner”, because I always call myself that when referring to how all women love me. My favorite Bartender in the world voted “bigmexicandinner”, as did all of my slightly-less favorite bartenders (but you guys still rock), my friends, and even my friend Michelle who I called on the phone to ask. The only person who preferred “creepyfatman” (other than me) was a new bartender. Her argument was that more people would be interested in reading about a creepy fat man than Mexican food…or at least SHE would be. (She seems a little freaky, so she’s cool.)
Anyway, long story short (too late), I registered the domain, downloaded WordPress, figured out how to work it, and here we are…
Your time has officially been wasted.
